Why tinctures are effective medicine
Tinctures are absorbed easily through the stomach, making them both quicker and faster acting than oral supplements. They do not need to be processed in the intestines and are ideal for patients who have IBS, leaky gut, and other issues causing decreased absorption.
Tinctures are more environmentally friendly than supplements because they are packaged in glass, preserved in alcohol (meaning they have a longer lifespan and can last for up to ten years before going bad), and are processed without fillers. Many times the oral supplements you buy from the store are full of fillers that are not medicinal ingredients (at The Natural Path Clinic we have carefully selected supplements that have absolutely no fillers)—this is more burdensome to the body and costs you money for something that is not beneficial.
In addition to this, tinctures are custom made. This means that they are specific to you and whatever you are dealing with.
Why does this matter to you?
. Faster results
. 1/2 teaspoon a day or less versus several pills (unless you have practitioner grade supplements that have higher doses than available at the store)
. Individualized formulas that can treat many of your symptoms and the underlying cause all in one bottle
. Saves you money in the long run because tinctures are more efficient
. Little or no exposure to xenoestrogens because tinctures are packaged in glass
. You are playing a part in saving the environment by decreasing waste
. No pills
What exactly is a tincture?
A tincture is an infusion of herbs in alcohol. The herbs are usually dried (although sometimes fresh are used) covered in alcohol, and left to sit for a few weeks. The alcohol extracts all of the medicinal ingredients that are beneficial to you in meeting your health goals. The naturopathic dose is usually around 3 teaspoons three times a day.
What if I don’t like the taste?
We always try to make it taste as nice as possible. We can add more sweet herbs, or if this isn’t possible due to the herbs required for your situation, suggest you mix it with some water or juice. Bonus: a half teaspoon in a cup of water is mildly noticeable and it will be a reminder to drink more water.
